A goal in each half was just enough to lead Whitworth to a 2-0 win over the Pacific University men's soccer team on Sunday.
The Boxers (1-10-3, 0-7-2) had four shots – two each from
Cade Taniguchi (pictured below) and
Nico Allen – in the loss.

The Pirates (7-7-1, 5-4) Drew Williams and Britton Clifford each scored a goal for Whitworth, who outshot the Boxers by a 22-4 margin and 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Bo Broyles made two saves in the shutout victory.
Williams got Whitworth on the scoreboard, sneaking a shot into the left side of the net in the 16
th minute for the early lead. In the 35
th minute, Taniguchi nearly had the equalizer for the Boxers before the Whitworth defense blocked the attempt. Nearly two minutes later,
Nico Allen put one past Broyles, who made the save to keep the home team ahead.
Clifford added to the lead, rebounding his own shot that was blocked by the Boxers'
Connor Evans in the 73
rd minute for what proved to be the final margin.
Next, Pacific comes home for three of its next four matches. The home swing starts with a matchup against Linfield on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2:30 p.m.
