In celebrating Senior Day on Sunday, the Pacific University men's soccer team made winners of its seven graduating seniors with a 2-1 win over Puget Sound at Ledbetter Field.
Pacific (3-12-3, 2-8-2 NWC) scored a pair of goals within a two-minute stretch in the opening half for the win. Before the Boxers got on the scoreboard, Pacific senior
Woodey Greer had a clearance as the Loggers' Luke Murdock had an open goal opportunity in the 21
st minute.
The defensive effort energized the Boxer attack as freshman
Nico Allen, who was on the receiving end of a pair of passes by
Grant Rutledge and
Cade Taniguchi. Rutledge played it in from 15 yards, who connected with Taniguchi, then he managed to find an open Allen for the early 1-0 lead for his third goal of the season. Nearly two minutes later, senior
Robert Nurmi from 24 yards out ripped a shot to the lower left corner after a through ball from
Jericho Lara to put Pacific ahead 2-0.
After a clean sheet of the first 45 minutes by senior
Jack Orum, the Boxers called on senior
Jack Cuevas in the early moments of the second half. The Loggers put pressure on the Boxer keeper for the remainder of the contest. The Corvallis native nearly led the Boxers to the shutout but Murdock ended the shutout bid in the 88
th minute with his eighth goal of the season. Cuevas finished the contest, making eight saves.
Prior to the game, Pacific honored its seven seniors –
Chris Abosamra,
