Pacific shot 39.1% from the field and made 73.1% of its free-throw attempts in a 99-96 win over Johnson & Wales (Colo.) to wrap up its play in the UCSC Tip Off Classic on Saturday.
The Boxers (2-0) had four players in double figures for the second-straight game. Senior
Andy Isokpehi had his first double double, scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Pacific. He was joined in the double figures by
Marcus Wallace (19 points),
Terrence Gilder (12 points) and
Davis Holly (11 points).
The Wildcats (0-2) were led by a 41-point effort by Andray Thomas Jr., who also had a double double with 12 rebounds. Thomas had four 3-pointers, five assists, three blocks and three steals in the loss. He was joined in double figures by Tylon Page, who also had a double double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
The game went back and forth for most of the first 13 minutes of the game until Gilder came away with a steal and layup with 7:01 left in the first half. The layup set the tone for the remainder of the contest as the Boxers led for the rest of the contest. Pacific went by as much as seven in the opening half.
Pacific stretched a five-point halftime lead, 52-47, to as much as 12 (73-61) in the second half. However, the Wildcats would only get as close as three in the final 20 minutes.
Following the game, Isokpehi and Wallace were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Next, Pacific will face NCAA Division I member, Seattle University on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in an exhibition game.
