A 3-pointer by the Boxers'
Chris Kobayashi tied the game for the sixth time at 78 with 6:03 left to play on Wednesday night. The 3-pointer sparked a 9-2 run – seven of the nine came from senior
Davis Holly - by the Pacific men's basketball team, who snapped a six-game losing streak in a 98-93 win over the University of Mary Washington.
Holly finished the game with a team-high 24 points to lead four Pacific players in double figures in the win. The 24-point effort moved the senior from Bend into fourth all-time in career scoring with 949 points (1 shy of third – 950).
He was joined in double figures by sophomore
Jared Cattell, who had 19 points – six 3-pointers and 15 each from seniors
Marcus Wallace and
Andy Isokpehi.
The Eagles (7-4), who are on a Northwest swing prior to the holidays, were able to land six players – including all five starters - in double figures including Trey Barber, who had a game-high 27. Riley Welch came off the bench to add 18, Greg Rowson had 11, Anias Saunder had 11 and Da'Shawn Cook had 10.
The game went back and forth as it saw the contest tied on six occasions and featured seven lead changes.
The Boxers went into halftime trailing 46-42 before coming out and shooting 54.3% from the field in the final 20 minutes. Holly scored 16 of his 24 in the final 20 minutes and Cattell had 10 of his 19. The duo combined for five of the nine 3-point field goals, plus the Boxers sealed the win with a 9-for-10 effort from the free-throw line. Not to be lost in the offensive efforts, the Pacific defense forced 15 of its 27 turnovers in the second half, scoring 18 points on those miscues.
Next, Pacific will be off for the holiday break and start Northwest Conference play with Linfield on Friday, January 3 at 8 p.m.
