Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

All-Around Team Effort Leads Pacific to 62-43 Win Over Lewis & Clark

For the last 6:51 of the game, the Pacific University women's basketball team held visiting Lewis & Clark without a field goal and held the Pioneers to 20% shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes en route to a 62-43 win on Friday night.

The Boxers (8-15, 2-12 NWC) not only did it on the defensive side of the ball but also on the offensive side ball in the win. Pacific made eight 3-pointers – for the 12th time on the season – in the win including three each from Ashley Jones and Liana Tanaka, who paced the Boxers with 17 and 15 points, respectively. The third Boxer in double figures was Courtney Carolan, who added 10 for Pacific. Also making significant contributions for Pacific in the win was Jenee Brown, who had seven points and six rebounds. Tanaka added six rebounds and three assists, plus Shelby Holman came off the bench to grab a team-high seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Pioneers (2-22, 1-14 NWC) were led by a game-high 20-point effort from Delsie Johnson, who also had nine rebounds in the loss.

Tanaka knocked down a 3-pointer and Carolan converted a put-back attempt just before the halftime buzzer to put the Boxers ahead 29-24 at the break. The five-point halftime lead was the largest for the Boxers since a 16-point lead against Corban on December 8.

After seeing Pacific coaches and staff take shaving cream pies to the face at half, the Boxers continued the momentum into the final 20 minutes. Pacific managed to build a lead as large as 16 in the third quarter, shooting 47.1% (8-for-17) from the field and holding the Pioneers to 20% (3-for-15). Plus, the Boxers outscored Lewis & Clark by a 19-8 margin in the quarter.

The Boxers stretched the lead to as much as a game-high 21 in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory. Defensively, Pacific continued to shut down the Lewis & Clark attack, limiting the Pioneers to another 20% (2-for-10) effort in the quarter.

The 19-point victory is the largest on the season for the Boxers, who will wrap up the season on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they host Linfield. Prior to the game, Pacific will honor its four seniors – Jeneé Brown, Candice Nkoy, Liana Tanaka and Megan Wesel.
