Boxers Lose to Linfield on Senior Day, 97-89

A quick four-point swing midway through the second half put visiting Linfield ahead for the remainder of the game en route to a 97-89 win over the Pacific University men's basketball team on Senior Day on Saturday night.
 
Pacific (10-14, 4-11 NWC) had four players in double figures including Marcus Wallace, who had a team-high 19 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Chris Kobayashi, who hit five 3-pointers for 15 points, Gage Shelmidine added 12 and John Rigatti scored 10.
 
Linfield (17-8, 10-6 NWC) overcame a 63% effort from the free-throw line to shoot 47.9% from the field. The Wildcats dominated the boards, outrebounding the Boxers by a 52-36 margin. Grant Gibb scored a game-high 24 including six 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats, who had four in double figures. Austin Hilton (20 points), Tanner Autencio (13 points) and Riley Bruil (11 points) also were in double figures for the victors.
 
The Boxers and the Wildcats were tied at 70, following a three-point play by Pacific's Gage Shelmidine with 10:06 to play. The visitors from McMinnville came back with back-to-back layups by Dempsey Roggenbuck and Gibb to regain the lead for the rest of the contest. Linfield managed to stretch the lead to as much as 11 on three-different occasions to spoil comeback hopes for the Boxers.
