Boxers Pound Out 14 Hits in 10-5 Win Over Corban

14 hits by the Pacific University baseball team helped the Boxers extend its winning streak to four with a 10-5 win over Corban in a non-conference game on Tuesday at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

Three of the hits came off the bat of Boxers' sophomore Ryan Krout, who for the third-straight game hit a home run to raise the Pacific record to 16-6 on the 2019 season. The Boxers also got a three-hit game from freshman Jacob Igawa and two from Hayden Wright in the win. Starting pitcher Bryce Wlodarchak pitched the first three innings, allowing two hits to raise this record to 2-0.

The Warriors, who fall to 8-17-1, spread nine hits among seven-different players including Jared Berard and Brendan Rodegerdts, who each had two to lead Corban.

Krout put Pacific on the scoreboard in the first inning with a RBI single en route to a six-RBI effort for the sophomore third baseman, who was named the Northwest Conference Baseball Position Player Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday. He brought in Chase Anderson, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first.

Offensively, Pacific had a hit in every inning except for the fourth en route to the win. The Boxers had just one hit in the third but it was a two-RBI single by Igawa that sparked a three-run inning. The other run, again, came off the bat of Krout, who brought it in Anderson on a sacrifice fly.

After Corban scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth, the Boxers clinged to a 4-3 lead before Krout again had the answer with a two-run home run over the left-field fence in the bottom of the fifth.

With a 6-3 lead in the sixth, the Boxers picked up two more on the second two-run home run of the night by Krout. For the Washougal, Washington native, it is his fifth home run in four games and second multi-home run game of the season. He is the first Pacific player since Kurtis Kloke in 2017 to have two multi-home run games in a season.

With the Boxers holding an 8-3, the Warriors cut into the Pacific lead with a run each in the seventh and eighth before Pacific picked up a pair of insurance runs on four hits in the eighth for the final margin.

Nine-different Boxers contributed to the 14 hits and the Pacific coaching staff utilized eight-different pitchers in the win. Offensively, Krout went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a career-best six RBI. The last Pacific player with 6 RBIs in a game was Ian Blair, who also had six RBIs against Lewis & Clark earlier this season on Feb. 24.

Next, Pacific will host a pair of doubleheaders against Whittier on Friday, Mar. 22 at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
