The Pacific University women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to host George Fox in Newberg on Saturday.
The Boxers (1-2) started the match, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The team of
Sophia Nishimura and
Halie Chang were 8-4 winners at No. 2 and
Adrienne Powell and
Johanna Wilson (pictured) were victorious by an 8-6 margin.
The Bruins rallied to win four of the six singles matches, clinching the victory. The two wins in singles for Pacific came at No. 1 singles by
Chantelle Baclay, who won in quick fashion by a 6-1, 6-1 margin. The other win came when
Johanna Wilson was a 6-1, 7-6 winner at No. 5.
With the two wins by the Boxers at No. 1 and No. 5 and the Bruins had came back with wins at No. 2 and No. 6 as the match was decided at No. 4. The Boxers' Haile Chang won the first set by a 6-2 margin before the Bruins' Danielle Brown came back to win the next two sets by a 6-2, 6-4 margin to secure the win for the home team.
It will be a quick turnaround for Pacific, who next will host College of Idaho on Sunday at the Holce Tennis Courts at 11 a.m.
