Boxers and Bearcats Split Doubleheader

The Pacific University baseball team split a doubleheader with Willamette in Salem on Saturday. The Boxers took game one by a 3-2 margin in 10 innings before the Bearcats came back with an 8-1 win in the nightcap.

Game one saw the Boxers plate the winning run when Ryan Krout singled through the left side, scoring Dylan Morgan. Earlier in the inning, with two out, Drew Fagerness reached on a walk. The Boxers' called on Morgan to run for Fagerness; then, Ian Blair singled to put runners on the corners for Krout.

Liam Cammall came on in relief of Pacific starter Casery Brown to begin the 10th inning. The Bearcats managed to get the tying run to third before Cammall got a pop out to secure the Boxer victory.

Willamette took an early lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI ground out before the Boxers came back with a run each in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-1 lead. In the fifth, with two out, Chase Anderson reached base after being hit by a pitch. Then, the speedy sophomore moved all the way to third on a failed pickoff attempt. He also used his speed to score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. A solo home run to start the sixth by the Bearcats tied the game at 2.
