The Pacific University baseball team split a doubleheader with Pacific Lutheran, winning game one – 13-1 and losing game two – 15-5.
The Boxers (20-16, 12-9 NWC) began the day scoring a season-high 13 runs on another season-high 17 hits against six-different pitchers for the host Lutes in game one.
The Lutes (20-13, 12-9 NWC) came back in game two to score 15 runs on 12 hits against seven Boxer pitchers.
Game one saw the offensive explosion for Pacific with
Derek Legeza leading the attack with four hits, plus
Chase Anderson added three,
Hayden Wright,
Eli Wisdom and
Ryan Krout each added two. Anderson drove in career-best five runs with Wisdom adding a pair.
All the offensive support was ample for starting pitcher
Sam Lawrence, who raised his record to 6-2, allowing three hits and striking out five in the complete game.
Pacific got on the scoreboard with a three-run second inning and started to add to its lead with a run each in the fourth and fifth before a four-run sixth and a three-run seventh put the Boxers ahead 12-0. The Lutes interrupted the shutout bid by Lawrence with its run in the bottom of the seventh. Then, Pacific plated its final run in the eighth. Krout,
Jordan Hara and
Jacob Igawa each had a double, Anderson hit his third triple of the season and stole two more bases to put his season total at 20.
Game two saw the Lutes offense come alive for 12 hits in the nightcap. The Boxers came back from an early 3-0 deficit with a five-run third inning to regain the lead before PLU came back with the next 12 runs en route to the 15-5 win.
Dustin Meyer and
Ian Blair each had two hits to lead Pacific, plus Meyer drove in a pair to pace the offense.
In the third, Meyer hit a two-RBI triple scoring
Derek Legeza and
Chase Anderson, who had reached on back-to-back walks with one out. Then, Blair brought in Meyer from third with a RBI double for the third run of the inning and tying the game at 3. Next,
Ryan Krout added the fourth run of the inning with a RBI double, scoring Blair from second. Later in the inning,
Jordan Hara hit a two out RBI single, scoring Krout that put Pacific ahead 5-3.
PLU scored three in the fourth regain the lead, taking a 6-5 lead. Then, they added to their lead with two runs each in the fifth and sixth as well as a five-run seventh inning. The Lutes' Andy Schmitz had three hits and two RBI to lead host Pacific Lutheran; plus, Michael Ceasr and Marques Colson each had two hits in the win.
