Boxers Lose to George Fox, 8-4

George Fox scored the final four runs en route to an 8-4 win over the Pacific University softball team in an elimination game of the Northwest Conference Tournament.

The Boxers (23-18) overcame an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead in the third and tie the game at four in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bruins (26-15) scored three times in the sixth and added a run in the seventh for the win. George Fox had 14 hits including three each by Alyssa Gonzalez and Savanna Vargas in the win. Six-different Bruins had a RBI including Roni Braun and Makenna Martin, who each had two in the win.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, with runners on second and third, Montana Vaught doubled down the left-field line to tie the game with a pair of RBI. Then, a walk to Hailey Miller put runners on first and second for Jill Uyeda, who brought in Vaught from second with a RBI single up the middle to put Pacific ahead for the first time on the day.

Back-to-back home runs in the top of the 4th put the Bruins back ahead but the Boxers managed to come back with a run in its half of the inning to tie the game at 4. To start the inning, Rylee Patton doubled just inside the foul line along the left field line. Then, after a fly out and a George Fox error, the Boxers managed to put runners on the corners. A Boxer stolen base put runners on second and third for senior Kaitlynn Donaca, who got a RBI ground out to tie the game at 4.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Bruins scored three runs on three hits including a two-run home run by Martin in the sixth en route to the win. George Fox added a run in the top of the seventh but the Boxers mounted a threat in the bottom half of the inning.

With one out, Vaught and Miller hit back-to-back doubles before the Bruins' snagged a line drive off the bat of Uyeda for a game-ending double play.
