The Pacific University baseball team saw its 2019 season end in a 6-3 loss to No. 1 seed Whitworth at the 2019 Northwest Conference Championships on Sunday morning. The suspended game was resolved after darkness settled in on Saturday, forcing the game to be moved to Sunday.
The Boxers (25-18) end the season with 25 wins for the most since the 2016 squad reached an identical record. Coincidentally, it was the last season that Pacific had played in the Northwest Conference Tournament.

Pacific, who was picked to finish eighth in a preseason poll of Northwest Conference coaches, entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and battled to the final out on Sunday. Post-season honors from the Northwest Conference will be announced on Monday.

The game between the Pirates and the Boxers saw Pacific take an early 2-0 lead when
Eli Wisdom hit a two-RBI single in the first inning for the early lead. Wisdom finished the day with a pair of hits and fellow seniors
Dustin Meyer and
Hayden Wright each added two hits apiece in their final Pacific games.

After taking a 2-0 lead, Whitworth cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the first and took their first lead on the day with a pair of runs in the second.
A resilient squad from Pacific came back to tie it at 3 in the third when senior
Von Ferguson plated
Jordan Hara, who had reached on a throwing error. Then, Whitworth regained the lead in the bottom half of the third and for the remainder of the contest. Whitworth added to its lead with a run in the fourth and the sixth for the final margin. The Pirates' Tyler Bailey had a team-high three hits and two RBI in the win. Plus, Nicholas Nerud and Cody Simmons each had two hits for the winning cause.

Whitworth starter Ryan Kingma went 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and striking out five for the win. Connor Grydtal pitched the final 3.2 innings, limiting the Boxers to four hits and striking out five for the save. Pacific starter
Tyler Oscarson got the loss, going 2.1 innings and scattering six hits to fall to 5-4.

Later in the day, the Pirates would force a winner take-all championship game against No. 3 seed Whitman. The Blues edged Whitworth, 8-7 to earn the Northwest Conference automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
