Pacific University baseball won its second-straight Northwest Conference series with a 22-2 rout of Linfield on Sunday afternoon.
The 22 runs by the Boxers against Linfield are the most by a Pacific club since March 25, 2016 when the Boxers plated 25 at Pomona-Pitzer in a 25-7 win. Offensively, 10-different Boxers had a hit including a team-high three from
Tanner Johnson and
Tyler Quinn. Johnson along with
Jordan Hara and
Dylan Morgan each had three RBI to lead the Pacific offense. Relievers
Gavin Bullock and
Tyler Oscarson pitched five innings of relief without allowing a hit. Bullock was credited with the win after pitching three innings of scoreless relief to go along with two strikeouts.
With the win, Pacific moves to 7-6 on the season and 5-1 in the Northwest Conference. In the series between the two teams, Pacific has won six of the last seven contests.
Linfield (5-8, 1-5 NWC) was clinging to a 2-0 lead despite just four hits the first five innings off Pacific starter
Sage Dunaway.
The Boxers started its comeback with its first run of the day on an
Ian Blair sacrifice fly in the sixth. After a 1-2-3 bottom half of the inning, Pacific plated eight runs on three hits including a two-RBI single by
Tyler Quinn that put the Boxers ahead 9-2. Pacific added to its lead with eight more runs including a two-RBI double by
Jordan Hara and three-run home run by
Dylan Morgan in the eighth. Next, Pacific added its final five runs in the ninth on four more hits.
Next, Pacific will resume conference play with a three-game series against Whitworth, beginning on Saturday, March 7 with a noon doubleheader at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
