Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pacific Knocked Off by Whitman

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Pacific University men's soccer team struggled to create scoring opportunities in their 3-1 defeat against a talented Whitman side.

The game was fairly even until the 27th minute when the visitors found the opening goal. The Blues gained confidence after taking the and started to dominate in the attacking third, adding another shortly after halftime. Pacific got a goal back just a few minutes later, but Whitman's pressure would prove to be too much as they tucked in another goal to seal the victory.

Whitman fired 16 shots with nine on target while the Boxers managed just three shots in the match. Pacific's only shot on frame came from the penalty spot.

Some individual brilliance from Whitman's Jacob Burrill gave them the early lead in the 27th minute when the forward skipped past a couple Boxer defenders before cutting on to his preferred left foot and lashing a shot into the back of the net.

The Blues doubled their advantage shortly after halftime when they capitalized on a set piece. A free kick was whipped into a dangerous area and Rowan Calvert got on the end of a bouncing ball in the box and tucked his shot inside the post to make it 2-0.

Pacific pegged one back when the Boxers were awarded a penalty following a foul in the penalty box. Brodie Buchert (Freshman/Riverside, CA) stepped up to the spot and slotted his spot kick home for his second goal of the season

The visitors put the game away in the 81st minute when Noa Taylor beat a couple defenders with a lovely bit of skill before chipping the goalkeeper to clinch the 3-1 scoreline and earn all three points for his side.
