Offense Steps Up as Boxers Down Blues

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University Volleyball team found their way back to the win column Friday night as they took down the Blues of Whitman College in four sets (19-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-21).

The Boxers (5-9, 3-5 NWC) were unable to tame the Whitman (4-14, 2-7 NWC) offense in the first set as they collected 16 kills to the Boxer 11. The Blues ran away with the opening set 25-19, but that did not faze the Boxers.

The Boxers came out hot in the second set as they jumped to an early 12-7 lead, and they never looked back. In the next three sets, the Boxers were able to outperform the Blues in the hitting percentage column, and it proved to be the difference maker in the next three sets.  The Boxers tallied 52 kills to the Blues 50 while hitting .199.

Offensively, the Boxers were led by their two outside hitters. Alison Brown (Sophomore/ Oregon City, OR) sent home a match high and career-high 18 kills in the match. Mara Murphy (Freshman/Salt Lake City, UT) posted her first double-double of her career with 14 kills and 14 digs. Shaianne Cambra (Junior/Kapolei, HI) paced the well-balanced Boxer offense with a match-high 50 assists.

Defensively, the Boxers were led by Danica Nelson (Freshman/ Folsom, CA) who collected a career high 17 digs. Libero Haley Walz (Senior/ Tucson, AZ) chipped in 15 digs of her own.
