Boxers Fall in Tight Contest at Multnomah

PORTLAND, Ore.- The Pacific University men's basketball fell in a hotly contested game that would go down to the wire at Multnomah University, as the Lions pulled out the 86-63 win.

This was the second time in two nights the Boxers faced off against the Lions and both teams would come out victorious on their home court as the two teams would split the back-to-back matchups.

The Boxers had a tough shooting night away from their home gym, going just 32-of-89 (36%) and 11-of-44 (25%) from three-point range. Pacific really struggled in the first 20 minutes, make just two of their 21 shots from beyond the arc in the first half.

Ethan Chung (Junior/San Ramon, CA) was the top performer with 16 points and 11 rebounds to record the double-double. Jacob Bolger (Junior/Portland, OR) enjoyed a decent day with 13 points and nine boards, just one shy of a double-double of his own.

Mario Mora (Senior/Bend, OR) and Jared Cattell (Senior/Bremerton, WA) also reached double figures with 13 and 12 points respectively.

How It Happened

Bolger opened the game with a ferocious dunk but the hosts would regroup and respond well, taking a 13-6 lead in the early minutes.

Layups from Isaiah Africano (Junior/Pearl City, HI) and Guy Littlefield (Sophomore/Forest Grove, OR) would bring the Boxers within three but Multnomah eventually raced out to an 11-point lead. A short run from Pacific towards the end of the half would cut the lead to eight and the Lions would head into the break with a 46-38 lead.

The hosts picked up where they left off and extended their lead to 14 points early in the second half. The Boxers would roar back, however, putting together an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to just three points at the eight-minute mark.

It would go back-and-forth in the final minutes but a big three from the Lions with 47 seconds on the clock gave them a four-point advantage.

Pacific made it interesting when Cayden Wagner (Sophomore/Portland, OR) knocked down a trip to cut the lead to one point with less than 10 seconds on the clock. The Lions split free throws on the ensuing possession giving the Boxers a chance to reply. The visitors were fouled shooting a three-pointer on their final possession, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity and Multnomah would walk away with the 86-83 victory.
