Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pacific Opens Ken Schumann Classic With Win Over Geoducks

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University men's basketball team raced out to an early lead and wouldn't look back in their dominant 106-79 victory over Evergreen State College, in their first game of the Ken Schumann Classic at the Stoller Center.

It was a fairly sloppy game on Friday night with the two teams combining for 54 total turnovers. The Boxers shot the ball well, however, posting a field-goal percentage of 55.4% as they were able to get easy layups in transition. Pacific was tough on the defensive end as well, holding the Geoducks to just 3-of-19 from three-point range and 37.1% from the floor.

Six Boxers would finish in double-digits in the high-scoring affair. Jacob Bolger (Junior/Portland, OR), Ethan Chung (Junior/San Ramon, CA), and Jared Cattell (Senior/Bremerton, WA) each recorded 15 points on the night.

Guy Littlefield (Sophomore/Forest Grove, OR) had a fantastic showing off the bench with 14 points, three assists, and three rebounds while going 5-of-6 from the floor and a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

Trevon Ridley (Junior/Murrieta, CA) also enjoyed a great game from the reserves with 13 points and two three-pointers. Lucas Winkler (Freshman/Portland, Ore.) poured in 10 points with seven points and five assists.

How It Happened

Pacific started off hot and quickly got out to an 11-4 lead behind a three-ball from Littlefield. The Boxers extended the lead to 14 points at the 12-minute mark when Shawn Cotton Jr. (Sophomore/San Mateo, CA), Drew Gumin (Freshman/Gilroy, CA), and Parker Manalo (Senior/Mill Creek, WA) each knocked down a three.

Cattell would get in on the action by nailing back-to-back triples to make it a 20-point lead for the hosts with 10 minutes left to play in the first half. The Geoducks would manage to hang around as they put together a 12-0 run to stay within striking distance. However, another good sequence from Pacific would give the home team a 49-39 lead at the break.

Mario Mora (Senior/Bend, OR) opened the second half with a deep three-pointer to get the Pacific offense going. Two consecutive baskets from Cattell would give the Boxers even more breathing room after another short Evergreen State run.

The two teams would trade baskets for much of the second half until Ridley found the bottom of the net from three-point range to make it a 13-point lead with eight minutes to play. The Geoducks would cut the lead to just eight points, but the Boxers would finish strong and cruise to the 106-79 victory and improve to 3-2 on the young season.
