FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Pacific University women's basketball rolled to a dominant 86-48 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon inside the Stoller Center.
The Boxers (7-3, 2-0 NWC) had an excellent night shooting the basketball, posting a field-goal percentage of 46.3% (31-67). Pacific moved the ball extremely well and recorded a season-high 29 total assists with only eight turnovers.
Nebraska Wesleyan (2-8, 0-4 ARC) was held in check by the Boxer defense, scoring just 48 points in the contest while committing 20 turnovers.
Camy Aguinaldo (Senior/Honolulu, HI) was brilliant, scoring a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting. The senior knocked down three shots from beyond the arc and dished out a game-high eight assists.
Brilie Kovaloff (Junior/Honolulu, HI) continued her hot shooting streak with 21 points on the day. Kovaloff was 5-of-8 from three-point range and 6-of-11 from the floor.
Sydney Gray (Junior/Central Point, OR) had a solid performance with 15 points while hitting three triples. The junior pulled down five rebounds and racked up five assists.
Jayden Ray (Freshman/Hermiston, OR) enjoyed a decent day off the bench with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting while
Anya Henderson (Sophomore/Clackamas, OR) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, four on the offensive end.
How It Happened
Aguinaldo got things started with 12 points in the opening 10 minutes. The senior point guard scooped a layup before nailing a wide-open three-pointer to give the Boxers an early lead. Seven straight points from Aguinaldo would extend the Pacific lead to 12 points, giving the Boxers a 21-9 advantage after the first period.
Rilee Price (Junior/Brea, CA) opened the second quarter with a three-pointer on Pacific's first possession. Gray would make a shot from the perimeter before Kovaloff rattled off five straight points to extend the lead to 18 points at the media timeout. Kovaloff hit a three right out of the timeout and
Hannah Stein (Sophomore/Eugene, OR) would make a three of her own to break the game wide open. After the first half, the Boxers would hold a 45-21 advantage.
Pacific would lead by as many as 34 points in the third period as Gray and Aguinaldo continued to pace the Boxers offensively.
A total of 13 Boxers would see playing time in the contest and Pacific would cruise to the 86-48 win to cap off their non-conference schedule.
