FOREST GROVE, Ore.- Pacific University Athletics is excited to announce the addition of
Charlotte Copp as the Interim Head Rowing Coach.
Copp will lead the Boxer women's rowing program after spending three years as assistant coach.
"Coach Copp was a valuable assistant in our program," said Director of Athletics
Keith Buckley.
"Her passion for rowing and our student-athletes will serve her well as she steps into leading our team this year."
During her time as an assistant coach, Copp helped the Boxers finish fifth in the Northwest Conference in 2018 and 2019. She was also heavily involved with recruiting and worked primarily with the Novice athletes, teaching them how to row so they can easily transition to being competitive in a varsity boat.
In the Spring of 2019, she coached the Novice 4+ to the petite final at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association regatta (WIRA) that Pacific attends every April in Sacramento, CA. It was the first time any Pacific boat made it to the petite final at that regatta.
During the summers, she coaches
Learn to Row for adults at Station L Rowing in Portland and continues to race competitively with their masters team. At State L, she stroked and won the Women's AA/A 8+. She also won bronze in the AA/A 4+ at Northwest Masters Regionals in 2019.
Copp walked on to the rowing team at Lewis & Clark in the Northwest Conference. In her senior season, she earned All-NWC honors and captained a Pioneers team that finished fourth at the NWC Championships. Her career was highlighted by placing sixth on the all-time 2K record board and winning a bronze medal in the Double at the WIRA regatta in Sacramento, Calif. Other highlights include stroking the varsity 8 in 2018, going to the grand finals in the V8 at WIRA in 2017, and winning the petite finals in the V8 at WIRA by over 10 seconds in 2016.
She earned her bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Lewis & Clark. She also currently works as a GEO Contractor for Quantum Spatial, working to find environmental solutions.
"The team has been getting more competitive each year and I'm really looking forward to taking on more responsibility in this role as head coach and helping foster that competitive drive," Copp said. "Our team goals are staying the same as they have been in the past three years; learn, grow, challenge ourselves, and do it all with a strong sense of community and good culture."
