FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University men's soccer team proved to be in great form during their 4-1 win over Multnomah University, Thursday night inside Hanson Stadium
The Boxers showed some excellent, free-flowing attacking soccer, scoring some brilliant goals to separate themselves from their opponent.
"This game was a good learning experience," said Head Coach
Brandon Porter. "It was a challenging opponent that allowed us to work on a few things. Some great goals were scored, there was some solid defending by the back line, and overall, the guys were up for the fight. I am proud of them, but we need to regroup and prepare for some real tests in Washington."
Pacific was on the front foot for the entire contest, tallying a total of 14 shots with seven on target. The men on the backline would stay disciplined and compact, holding the Lions to just three shots on the night.
Jericho Lara (Junior/Makawao, HI) nearly found the opening goal in the first minute of the game, but his shot was lifted just over the crossbar. Another chance presented itself in the 13
th minute when
Nico Allen (Junior/Sierra Vista, AZ) fired towards an open net but his attempt was impressively blocked by a Multnomah defender.
After dominating the run of play, the Boxers finally got the goal they deserved in the 27
th minute.
Noah Edwards (Freshman/Honolulu, HI) did well to race on to a bouncing ball in the penalty area and lashed his shot to the far post to give his team and early 1-0 advantage.
The Lions would quickly equalize after being awarded a penalty kick following a Pacific foul in the box. Alejandro Jaramillo calmly deposited the spot kick and leveled the contest at 1-1.
In the 39
th minute,
Jayden Adkison (Freshman/Kapolei, HI) whipped in a beautiful corner kick that found the head of
Sam Altman (Sophomore/Portland, OR). The sophomore struck the header well and gave the keeper no chance to save it, and he would put Pacific back out in front.
The Boxers doubled their lead in the 55
th minute when
Brodie Buchert (Freshman/Riverside, CA) played an inch-perfect pass to send
Lucas Muller (Senior/Independence, OR) through on goal, and the senior would take his chance beautifully, slotting it into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
Lara put the icing on the cake in the 74
th minute with a stunning effort from well outside the penalty area, curling his shot into the top right corner to seal the 4-1 score line.
