Adkison Scores; Pacific Falls at Willamette

SALEM, Ore.- The Pacific University men's soccer team fell victim to two set-piece goals in their 3-1 defeat at Willamette University.

The Bearcats (4-2-0, 2-1-0 NWC) were on the front foot for the entire contest, but were unable to get on the scoresheet in the first half. Willamette increased the pressure in the final 45 minutes and made the most of their set piece opportunities, scoring once via a corner kick and found their second goal through a well-worked free kick routine.

The Boxers (3-4-1, 0-2-1 NWC) spent a majority of the contest trapped in their own third, recording just five shots. Willamette finished with a total of 19 shots with nine on goal in the 90-minute contest.

Pacific did well to stifle any scoring chances for Willamette in open play, but struggled with Max Berner-Hays' large frame. The Bearcats' defender got forward and used his height and jumping ability to win two headers, directing them both on target to net himself a brace.

Jayden Adkison (Freshman/Kapolei, HI) scored a fantastic goal with less than five minutes to play, whipping in a beautiful free kick that found the top corner. Adkison's first collegiate goal gave the Boxers a chance to push for an equalizer and force extra time.

Despite Pacific's best efforts, Willamette put the game away in the 89th minute when Pierce Gallaway found the bottom corner to guarantee three points for his side.
