Breaking Boundaries: Thuy Williams with Uganda Lacrosse

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- Thuy Williams, Assistant Coach for Pacific Lacrosse, was recently named the general manager for the Uganda Lacrosse Women's National Team.

Williams joins their staff during a groundbreaking period for Uganda women's lacrosse. In June of 2022, they will compete in the Women's Lacrosse World Championships for the first time, making them the first African nation to take part in the competition.

"This is an opportunity of a lifetime," Williams said. "Our theme is 'hope' as the women of Uganda Lacrosse will become heroes in their communities. They will bring so much hope to the women of Uganda, giving so much pride to the younger generation."

In her new position, Williams will oversee all logistical operations for the national team. One of her main responsibilities includes fundraising efforts to get each athlete sponsored to play at the world championships. She will have many communication duties and will maintain her previous position involving strength and conditioning.

The world championships in June will be a qualifying opportunity for the 2028 Summer Olympics hosted in Los Angeles, Calif. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has endorsed full recognition for men's and women's lacrosse, and a vote will be held soon to include the sport in the Olympic games.

"I am so honored, there are no words for how amazing this is," Williams said. "I'm so excited to bring a better future for these young women."

The 2022 Women's Lacrosse World Championships will take place from June 29-July 9 in Towson, Md. Williams and the national team will look forward to a memorable debut at the world championships.
