FOREST GROVE, Ore. – It was a tight, mid-week battle between Pacific and George Fox on Wednesday afternoon, but the visiting Bruins scored four runs in the ninth to snatch the non-conference victory.
The Boxers (14-9, 9-6 NWC) struck for five runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding lead. However, George Fox trimmed the lead to just one run heading into the final frame. Pacific's bullpen was unable to shut the door and let the late lead slip, allowing the Bruins to come out on top.
Liam Cammall (Senior/San Diego, CA) made history in the eighth inning when he made his 47
th career pitching appearance, breaking the Pacific baseball all-time record. Cammall passes Dan Wolfe (2008-11) and Cole Kanazawa (2015-18) who each finished with 46 appearances in their career.
Tyler Quinn (Junior/Mililani, HI) was the only Boxer to record a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Andrew Thomas (Senior/Escondido, CA) also drove in two runs in his 1-for-4 performance.
How It Happened
George Fox used a walk, hit-by-pitch, and a single to open the scoring in the top of the third before a solo shot from Derek Williams made it a 2-0 advantage for the visitors.
Pacific went scoreless over the first four frames, but went to work in the fifth when they pushed five runs across to take the lead.
Max Nealon (Senior/Redmond, WA) led things off with a solid single to left field before
Jordan Hara (Senior/Aiea, HI), making his first start since Feb. 6, drew a walk. Quinn sacrificed the runners into scoring position and after a hit-by-pitch, back-to-back walks would even the score at 2-2.
A wild pitch would bring another runner to the plate and Thomas came through with a big swing, ripping a grounder through the left side to drive in two runs.
Pacific mustered just one hit for the remainder of the contest and were held scoreless. This allowed the Bruins to claw their way back into the game, putting up two runs over the sixth and seventh innings to come within striking distance.
The Boxers would surrender two straight walks to lead-off the top of the ninth and the Bruins would quickly take advantage. After laying down a sacrifice bunt, a base hit up the middle would give George Fox the lead. Another walk followed by a single would make the score 8-5.
Pacific blanked again in its last turn at the plate and the Bruins would escape with the road win.
