McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Damon Tanner (Sophomore/El Dorado Hills, CA) homered early,
Derek Eubanks (Senior/Oregon City, OR) gave Pacific a fantastic start on the mound, and the bullpen did the rest as the Boxers took the rubber match 6-1 to earn the series victory over Linfield.
The Boxers (16-10, 11-7 NWC) have won four consecutive series in Northwest Conference play and now hold a share of first place in the standings. Pacific never trailed in the series finale but a three-run ninth inning would give the Red and Black the cushion they needed to come out on top on Sunday afternoon.
Max Nealon (Senior/Redmond, WA) moved over to third base and enjoyed a two-hit performance while
Ty Yukumoto (Freshman/Waipahu, HI) was the other Boxer to post a multi-hit day.
Jordan Hara (Senior/Aiea, HI) racked up three-RBI while going 1-for-4. Scoring one run himself, the senior accounted for four of Pacific's six runs.
How It Happened
Both teams went scoreless in the first frame but Tanner's solo shot to centerfield in the top of the second gave the Boxers' some early life.
Linfield equalized via a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, but that would be the only run allowed by Eubanks. The left-hander tossed four innings and scattered seven hits in his outing, striking out two.
Cayden Okada (Freshman/Waipahu, HI) came on to relieve Eubanks in the fifth. He was fantastic in his three innings on the hill, holding the Wildcats to just one hit in his scoreless bid.
Yukumoto ripped a single down the right-field to score
Cole Strober (Senior/Pacific City, OR), giving the Boxers a 2-1 lead.
Ryan Krout (Senior/Washougal, WA) extended the lead with his RBI base hit, making it a two-run advantage.
Pacific broke things open in the top of the ninth when Hara came to the plate with the bases juiced. He mashed a bases-clearing double to score three runs, allowing his team to cruise to the series victory.
Davis Koester (Sophomore/Trout Lake, WA) and
CJ Colyer (Sophomore/Gilroy, CA) combined to pitch the final two innings, keeping Linfield off the board to close the contest.
