FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific baseball team claimed the weekend series today over Lewis and Clark with a 16-3 win. With the win, the Boxers claim their first series win of the year in Northwest Conference play.
Pacific (9-7, 4-5 NWC) offense came out firing on all cylinders, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first. This inning set the ton for a huge offensive display as the Boxers totaled 14 hits on the day while also drawing 10 walks.
Cole Strober (Senior/Pacific City, OR) led the way with three hits including a double. Strober also made a fantastic defensive play in left field when he charged a blooper and made a sliding catch.
Isaac Lovings (Senior/Beaverton, OR) and
Ryan Krout (Senior/Washougal, WA) provided some big swings in the middle of the order, with each hitting a long homerun over the wall in left field.
Derek Eubanks (Seinor/Oregon City, OR) had a tremendous start for the Boxers, picking up his second win on the season. The left-hander pitched six complete innings only allowing three hits while striking out five Pioneer hitters.
How It Happened
The Boxers opened the game up right away with four runs in the bottom of the first. Strober scored the first run of the game when he raced home on a wild pitch. Lovings would drive home the second run of the inning with a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield. With one runner still left on base after the sacrifice fly,
Damon Tanner (Sophomore/El Dorado Hills, CA) would come to the plate and delivered an RBI triple.
Sage Dunaway (Junior/Sherwood, OR) would plate the final run of the inning when he brought Tanner home with an infield hit.
The Pioneers would score a run in the top of the fifth before Lovings would respond with a no-doubt homerun that would clear the scoreboard at Chuck Bafaro Stadium. The solo shot would push the score to 5-1 in favor of the Red and Black.
Pacific put together another big inning in the bottom of the sixth, putting up seven runs on four hits, while capitalizing on three errors by the Pioneer defense. The biggest hit of the inning came from Krout who demolished the third pitch of his at-bat to deep left field for a three-run homer. At the end of the sixth inning, the Boxers led 12-1.
The visitors tacked on a couple runs in the top of the eighth, but Pacific would respond with four runs in the bottom of the inning, putting the game out of reach. The Boxers cruised to the 16-3 victory and clinched their first conference win since Feb. 13.
