NEWBERG, Ore. – Pacific dropped another one-run ballgame in the series finale at George Fox as the Bruins walked it off in the ninth inning for the second straight contest.
Due to other results around the conference, Pacific (23-13, 14-10 NWC) clinched a share of the Northwest Conference title despite their loss this afternoon. The Boxers capture their second consecutive conference championship and will await further results before their seed in the postseason tournament is determined.
This is the eighth time Pacific baseball has earned the Northwest Conference crown, making it three conference titles in the past 10 seasons.
Pacific managed just six hits on the day and
Jordan Hara (Senior/Aiea, HI) racked up four of them. Hara enjoyed a perfect 4-for-4 day while driving in a run.
Ryan Krout (Senior/Washougal, WA) mashed his ninth homer of the season, making it back-to-back games with a home run for the Boxers' first baseman.
How It Happened
After a scoreless first inning, George Fox used a sacrifice fly in the second to break the deadlock.
In the top of the fourth, Krout evened things up with a solo shot over the wall in right-center field. The Bruins regained the lead in the home half, pushing two runs across to make the score 3-1.
The back-and-forth contest took another twist in the fifth when Hara doubled to score
Damon Tanner (Sophomore/El Dorado Hills, CA) and
Tyler Quinn (Junior/Mililani, HI) brought
Cole Strober (Senior/Oregon City, OR) home on his sac fly, leveling the score at 3-3.
Davis Koester (Sophomore/Trout Lake, WA) was excellent in his relief appearance on Saturday afternoon after climbing the hill in the bottom of the fifth. The right hander surrendered just three hits and fanned four batters in his 4.2 innings of work.
The Bruins took advantage of back-to-back singles in the bottom of the ninth, eventually scoring the winning run following a fielder's choice on the final play of the game.
