WHITTIER, Calif. – Pacific completed the sweep over Whittier with their 15-4 victory over the Poets, capping off a perfect weekend in Southern California.
Pacific (20-10, 11-7 NWC) earns their 20
th win of the year to make it three consecutive seasons with 20 or more wins. The Boxers have now won five straight games and improve to 12-4 on the road in 2022.
Isaac Lovings (Senior/Beaverton, OR) put his incredible power on display, mashing a pair of home runs on the day. The catcher was 2-for-3 with two walks and four RBI. Lovings hit three big flies on the weekend he now leads the team with nine home runs this season.
Tyler Quinn (Junior/Mililani, HI) hit his fourth homer of the year and enjoyed a 2-for-6 day at the plate, racking up a game-high five RBI.
Jordan Hara (Senior/Aiea, HI was the other Boxer to notch a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
How It Happened
A theme of the series, Pacific burst into the lead with a big first inning. Hara led off the game with a solid single to right and he would eventually come around to score on a passed ball. Later in the inning, Lovings launched a three-run homer over the left-field wall to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
Derek Eubanks (Senior/Oregon City, OR) was dealing early in his outing, tossing four scoreless innings while racking up five strikeouts. The Poets finally tabbed him for a run in the fifth when Kellen Ward homered to get his team on the board. Eubanks settled down after the home run, getting out of the inning to conclude his solid outing. He would earn the win and improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Boxers quickly got that run back when
Nolan McNeill (Senior/San Tan Valley, AZ) continued his fantastic weekend by roping a double to score
Damon Tanner (Sophomore/El Dorado Hills, CA). McNeill extended the lead to 6-1 when he came home following a mishap by the Whittier defense.
CJ Colyer (Sophomore/Gilroy, CA) was the next hurler to toe the rubber as he took over in the top of the sixth. He quickly ran into some trouble and surrendered two runs, but limited the damage by inducing a double play before handing the ball to
Davis Koester (Sophomore/Trout Lake, WA) who recorded the final out of the inning.
In the seventh, Hara scored on a wild pitch after leading things off with a base hit to right. Two more runs would score on another Whittier error, putting the Boxers up 9-3. Quinn drove a couple runs home with his two-RBI single in the eighth, pushing the lead to 11-3.
After drawing an intentional walk in his last at-bat, Whittier pressed their luck by pitching to Lovings in the top of the ninth. The Poets would likely regret that decision as Pacific's home run leader blasted his second long ball of the game, a solo shot to left field.
Quinn followed with a three-run blast, his fourth of the year, to put the final nail in the coffin.
David Allen (Junior/Keizer, OR) and
Liam Cammall (Senior/San Diego, CA) combined to pitch the final three innings to complete the sweep over Whittier
