ORANGE, Calif. – Pacific's season came to an end on Saturday afternoon when #3 seed Cal Lutheran used some timely hitting to race to an early lead and eventually come away with the 9-1 victory in the elimination game.
The Boxers make their exit from the NCAA Tournament but will look back on a successful 2022 campaign, including their second straight Northwest Conference title.
Ryan Krout (Senior/Washougal, WA) enjoyed fantastic performance, banging out three hits in his final game as a Boxer. He finishes his career as Pacific's all-time leader in doubles (43) and ranks second all-time in hits (196).
Cole Strober (Senior/Pacific City, OR) recorded two hits and an RBI while
Nolan McNeill (Senior/San Tan Valley, AZ) scored the lone run of the game while going 1-for-4.
Damon Tanner (Sophomore/El Dorado Hills, CA),
Robert Drayer (Senior/Makawao, HI), and
Isaac Lovings (Senior/Beaverton, OR) each tallied a hit in the contest.
How It Happened
Cal Lutheran started quickly by capitalizing on a leadoff triple to open the scoring. Starting pitcher
Will Clark (Junior/Boise, ID) settled down after the first, retiring eight straight hitters to keep the Kingsmen bats at bay.
Pacific's offensive struggles continued, however, as they were unable to score in the bottom of the second when they got runners to second and third with no outs.
The visitors quickly took advantage of the Boxers' missed opportunity and added three runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to 4-0. This chased Clark out of the game and
David Allen (Junior/Keizer, OR) came on to replace the left hander.
Allen kept the Kingsmen in check, allowing just one hit over three innings of work. The reliever ran into some trouble in the seventh and Cal Lutheran would double their lead by scoring four times.
Liam Cammall (Senior/San Diego, CA),
Tyler Agnew (Junior/Folsom, CA), and
Joey Harmon (Sophomore/Scottsdale, AZ) combined to get the final eight outs of the contest.
Pacific scored their only run of the game in the bottom half of the seventh when McNeill and Drayer got things started with back-to-back singles. Strober came through with his second hit of the day to score McNeill.
Pacific finishes the season at 28-18 to make it three consecutive seasons with 25 or more wins
