Pacific Picks Up Sweep in Season Opener

Boxers kick off the season with a perfect 3-0 sweep in the Lone Star state

SHERMAN, Tex.- Pacific Volleyball opened their season with a convincing sweep over Champion Christian College, Thursday night in the Lone Star state.

The Boxers only trailed once in the entire contest as they cruised to victory in straight sets, (25-16, 25-15, 25-12), to begin their trip to Texas with a win.

Top Performers

  • Mara Murphy matched the team-high with eight kills on the night despite playing just one set. She hit .700 with two digs and a block during her season debut.
  • Olivia Pratt impressed in her first match wearing the Red and Black, tallying eight kills with two digs.
  • Claire Stipsits delivered a solid all-around performance with a game-high 11 digs. The junior also managed four kills.
  • Shaianne Cambra racked up 27 assists in just two sets of action while picking up a block and three digs.

How It Happened

The Boxers got things started with a 10-point rally, sparked by four Murphy kills, to build a 12-2 advantage in the first set. Alison Brown came through with back-to-back kills to extend the lead, and Pacific would never look back, earning the 25-16 win in set one.

After trading points to start the second set, the Boxers once again created some separation with their 12-4 lead, forcing a Champion Christian timeout. Freshman Logan Smith got involved by rattling off three straight kills to put the Boxers out of sight. Following two kills from Stipsits at the end of the set, Pacific took a 2-0 lead in the match.

It was pure dominance in the third and final set, as Lacy Churchfield recorded two aces to put the Boxers out in front. Pacific eventually registered the 25-12 set victory to seal the win.
