Pacific Caps Off Perfect Opening Weekend with Sweep

Boxers put in another dominant performance to earn their best start in over a decade

IRVING, Tex. - Pacific Volleyball capped off a perfect opening weekend with another dominant sweep over the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon.

The Boxers improve to 4-0 after winning all four of their matches in Texas to begin their season. This is the program's best start to the season since 2011 when the team went 3-1 to start the year.

Top Performers

  • Mara Murphy led the Boxers on the attack yet again, recording 12 kills while hitting .241 on the day.
  • Charlotte Powell posted eight kills, hitting at a .467 clip.
  • Danica Nelson reached double-digit digs for the second straight match, putting up 11 on Saturday afternoon.
  • Shaianne Cambra tallied 21 assists and eight digs in a solid all-around performance.

How It Happened

The Boxers used an 8-1 run to set the tone in the opening set and later took a commanding 17-6 lead to force a UD timeout. Murphy racked up five kills to begin her excellent day, while Alison Brown and Lacy Churchfield combined for three kills in the set. The Crusaders cut the deficit to just six points, but Pacific would hang on to take the set 25-18.

Forest Grove's team carried the momentum into the second set by racing to a 7-1 lead, forcing another timeout from the UD bench. Pacific would continue to cruise when kills from Sarah Hon and Murphy extended the lead to 18-10. The Crusaders clawed within six points, but Powell came through with two kills and a huge block to put the set away, 25-14.

The third and final set would prove to be competitive early on, with the two teams trading points. Pacific continued its great attacking display, however, and managed another sizable lead (14-7) to force a timeout from the hosts. Powell registered four kills in the set to lead her team. Olivia Pratt would deliver the finishing blows with a pair of kills, clinching the sweep for the Boxers.
