SPOKANE -- Pacific (1-5) marched right down the field on its first drive to even the score at Whitworth (6-0).
But it was all Pirates from there as Whitworth scored 35 unanswered points to run away with a 42-20 victory Saturday afternoon.
After a three-yard touchdown run by Pacific running back
Kalai Pasi tied the game at 7-7 with 8:50 remaining in the first quarter, Whitworth took a 14-7 lead on a 44-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Austin Ewing to Evan Liggett with 1:49 remaining.
The Pirates scored three more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 35-7 lead into halftime. Whitworth then added another touchdown in the third to extend its lead to 42-7. The Pirates, who lost two fumbles, finished with 553 yards of total offense.
Pacific scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as backup quarterback
Braeden Titus found
Isaiah Pitre for a 32-yard pass and then connected with
Alejandro De Leon for a 9-yard score.
Titus completed 14 of 20 pass attempts for 169 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Brody Bantolina rushed for 81 yards on 19 carries. Pitre caught eight passes for 109 yards.
Anthony Lopez recorded nine total tackles to lead Pacific's defense.
Tatum Tausaga added eight tackles.
Next, Pacific travels to undefeated Linfield (6-0) on Saturday, Oct. 28.
