FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Playing their first home series of the season The Pacific University baseball team swept the Puget Sound Loggers this weekend with a thrilling 4-3 win and convincing 12-3 win on Saturday and closed out the series sweep on Sunday with a 7-3 victory. The Boxers are now 8-2 in Northwest conference play.

Walker Matthews recorded six RBI's on the weekend and plated the tying and winning run in game one of the series.

CJ Colyer and Isaac Lovings collected a total of three homeruns on the weekend.

Kahi Bisho pitched five scoreless innings in game two and collected a season high four strikeouts.

Sean Melrose and Davis Koester earned their first wins of the season. Koester also made his 57th appearance of his pitching career.
Game 1
Will Clark toed the rubber in the first inning to start the series. Clark threw four scoreless innings allowing only three runs, from the twenty-five batters he faced. Cayden Okada would make his way onto the mound in the top half of the seventh to close out the final three innings, earning his fifth win of the season.
Puget Sound struck first in the top half of the fifth scoring three runs.
The Boxers were quick to respond in the bottom half of the inning when Isaac Lovings blasted his fifth home run of the season to left field platting Andrew Thomas to cut the deficit to one, 2-3.
In an electric final half, following an intentional walk for Thomas and a single for Lovings, Walker Matthews walked up to the plate for his first at-bat of the day and ripped a single to right field to bring home both the tying and winning run of the ball game. The Boxers win in walk-off fashion taking their 4-2 victory and energy into game two.
Game 2
Kahi Bisho had an excellent outing earning his fifth start of the season throwing 5.1 scoreless innings and recording a season-high four strikeouts. Ayden Ruminski and Davis Koester would combine to toss the sixth and seventh inning holding the Loggers to just three runs while recording one strikeout each before handing the ball over to David Allen for an efficient closing performance. Allen came in and closed the door in the final frame striking out three of the four batters he faced.
The Boxers put together a big inning in the bottom of the seventh, racking up eight runs. Dawson Tokishi started things off with a single to center field, before back to back to back singles from Thomas, Lovings, and Matthews plated three runs. The rally continued for the Red and Black adding four more runs to the board to take the eight-run lead into the eighth inning. Matthew's fourth RBI of the day would allow the Boxers to tack on another run to solidify their 12-3 win in game two.
Game 3
The Boxers would strike first in the top of the first when CJ Colyer stepped up to the plate and smashed a two-run bomb to left field. Hunter Edwards would hold the Loggers to three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and collecting a season high three strikeouts.
Puget Sound would score three runs of their own in the top half of the fourth to take the 3-2 lead. Sophomore Sean Melrose would make his way onto to the mound in the sixth finding his first win of the year. Melrose would hold the Loggers scoreless allowing only one hit in the seven batters he faced. Aiden Kearns would make his third appearance of the season in the eighth and would throw an efficient nine pitches to close out the inning. Joey Harmon would enter the final frame of the contest holding the Loggers to only one hit.
In the bottom half of the sixth the Boxers were able to capitalize off of three straight walks when Dawson Tokishi found his first hit of the day with the bases loaded scoring Lovings. The Boxers offense would continue to show its strength when, Yukumoto and Matthews would each single up the left side driving in Koester and Tokishi. The Red and Black swept the weekend with a 7-3 win in game three.

The Boxers continue NWC play next weekend at Whitworth for a three game set starting on March 18th. The first pitch of the series is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
