How It Happened
The Red and Black got the scoring started in the second inning with a solo homerun from Andrew Thomas. The Boxers proceeded to score at least two runs each inning for the next five innings. In the bottom half of the third the bats began to heat up, hits from Quinn, Lovings and Gibbs put the Boxers up 3-0.
In the top of the fourth Bisho found back to back strikeouts and quickly found his way out of the inning, before the Boxers found three more runs in the bottom frame off a walk, passed ball and hit from Yukumoto.
Another quick inning for Bisho and the Boxer defense in the fifth led to two more runs for the Boxers in the bottom half. A double from Lovings and a pair of walks brought Lyssenko up to the plate with the bases loaded, when he singled up the left side to plate Gibbs and Lovings.
In the top of the sixth Cayden Okada entered the game and stepped onto the mound to relieve Bisho who earned the win, collecting four strikeouts and holding the Blues to just three hits in his five inning outing.
The Boxers added two more runs to the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth. Yukumoto and Colyer each reached base on balls and maneuvered themselves into scoring position to be batted in off of a pair of SAC flies, 10-0.
In the top of the seventh the Blues found their sole run of the game off a defensive error but Okada quickly shut down any possible momentum with a strikeout to end the inning. In the bottom frame, Quinn found his way on base with his second walk of the day before Colyer blasted a two run homer followed by Gibb's third hit of the day that scored Lovings for the final run of game one, 13-1.
Jackson Price entered the game in the top of the eighth for a quick three up three down eighth inning. Nick Bentsen was next up, making his way to the mound where he found two strikeouts of his own to send the Blues to the losers bracket.
