How It Happened
The Boxers got things started in game four with four consecutive singles from Koester, Yukumoto, Colyer, and Lovings to bring across the first three runs of the ball game.
Starting pitcher Will Clark shut down the Pioneers early striking out two of the three at-bats in the second inning. The base hits continued for the Boxers in the bottom of the second with a pair of singles from Tokishi and Quinn. A hit by pitch loaded the bases and a walk for Yukumoto pushed across the next run of the game. With two outs Lovings doubled to right field to plate three more runs to close out the inning, 7-0.
The visitors found their first run of the game in the fifth inning but couldn't continue to keep the momentum alive. In the bottom frame of the inning, a pair of walks for Thomas and Lyssenko got the Boxers in scoring position before Quinn stepped up to the plate to hit a single to center field that scored two more runs, 9-1.
A quick three up and three down in the next three innings led to the Pioneer's last at-bats in the final frame to try and recover from their eight-run deficit. With two outs Moore homered to score two runs for Lewis & Clark but one final strikeout from pitcher Will Clark sealed the deal for the Boxers' 9-3 victory.
