But the Boxers again couldn't stay on top, falling 24-17 at Pomona-Pitzer Saturday night. Â

After falling behind 3-0 on a 15-yard field goal with 3:03 remaining in the first quarter, Pacific answered with a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback
Ryan Helt to
Isaiah Pitre to give the Boxers a 6-3 lead with 13:38 remaining in the second quarter.

Jackson Green then added a 30-yard field goal with 7:22 remaining in the period and Pacific led 9-3 at halftime.

Down 17-9 after the Sagehens scored two third-quarter touchdowns, the Boxers tied the game with 11:21 remaining in the fourth quarter on a
Ryan Helt 30-yard touchdown pass to
Josiah Chaffin. Helt then connected with
Kai Bookland for the two-point conversion.

But Pomona-Pitzer quickly answered with a seven-play touchdown drive to take a 24-17 lead with 7:14 remaining in the game. Ethan Gretzinger found Matthias Olson for the game-winning 22-yard touchdown.

Trying to tie the game, the Boxers twice drove deep into Pomona-Pitzer territory, but turned the ball over on downs at the 27-yard line and then fumbled at the 7-yard line on the final play of the night.

Pacific outgained the Sagehens 359 yards to 333. The Boxers rushed for 156 yards and passed for 203.

Helt completed 17 of 28 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns.
Kalai Pasi rushed for 105 yards on 19 carries.Â

Hunter Brown and
Niko Iosefa led the Boxer defense, each finishing with eight tackles.Â

After a week off, Pacific will host Puget Sound on Saturday, Sept. 30 to begin Northwest Conference play.Â
