Boxers, Bruins split pitchers' duels at George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Governor Aufranc had the best game of his young Pacific career.

On the mound, the sophomore held George Fox to just two hits and one run over five innings to lead the Boxers to a 5-2 victory Saturday. Pacific got another pitching gem from senior Shane Melrose in game two, but the Boxers couldn't getting anything going offensively, falling 1-0.

Game 1

Pacific gave Aufranc early run support as Benjamin Lewis drove in Davis Koester with an RBI single to right field to put the Boxers up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Hunter Zielasko then drew a bases loaded walk to give Pacific a 2-0 lead.

CJ Colyer doubled to center field, driving home Ty Yukumoto to extend the Boxers lead to 3-0 in the second inning. Colyer then hit his 13th home run of the season in the top of the fourth to put Pacific ahead 5-0.

Davis Koester earned the save for the Boxers, pitching a perfect ninth inning, needing just 11 pitches to finish off the Bruins.

Game 2

Melrose held George Fox to three hits and one unearned run over 5 1/3 innings.

The Bruins scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a fielding error at second base.

The Boxers out-hit George Fox 6-4 in the loss.

On the mound, junior Hunter Edwards shut out the Bruins over 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and one walk.

Matt Gibbs was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a stolen base.

Pacific, 18-10 overall and 6-7 in the Northwest Conference, concludes the three-game series at George Fox Sunday at noon.
