MCMINNVILLE -- The Pacific volleyball team came out swinging, winning the first set 25-23 at Linfield.
But the Wildcats responded by capturing the next three sets to edge the Boxers 3-1 Tuesday night at Linfield.
The opening set went back-and-forth. After Pacific jumped out to a 6-1 lead, Linfield tied the set at 13-13. The Boxers then answered with a 4-0 run before the Wildcats outscored Pacific 6-1 run to take a 20-19 advantage. Trailing 21-23, the Boxers closed on a 4-0 run to take the set.
Linfield went on two 6-0 runs to win the second set 25-14 and even the match at 1-1.
After racing out to a 7-2 lead, the Wildcats never trailed in the third set on their way to a 25-16 victory.
Trailing 15-22 in the fourth set, Pacific made one last stand, responding with a 6-1 run to get within 21-23. But the Boxers could not complete the comeback, falling 25-23.
Pacific junior
Emma Velchek led the Boxers with 10 kills, six aces and 10 digs. Sophomore
Kayla-Jane Padayao posted 17 assists.
As a team, the Boxers hit just .043. Pacific had 12 service errors while Linfield recorded 13 aces.
Pacific dropped to 1-8 in the Northwest Conference and 4-10 overall.
