NEWBERG — A first-half strike from senior forward
Mirella Garcia proved to be the difference as the Pacific women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory at George Fox on Wednesday night.
Garcia broke through in the 37th minute, finishing a blocked shot from Rissalyn Hara to give the Boxers a lead they would not relinquish. The goal was Garcia's second of the season and capped a strong opening half in which Pacific outshot the Bruins 12-5.
The Boxers continued to dictate play after halftime, recording 19 total shots—10 on target—while limiting the Bruins to just eight attempts.
In goal, senior Kylie Pascual posted her third shutout of the year, stopping all four shots she faced. Hara led the Pacific attack with four shots on goal, while Garcia added three in the win.
The shutout was the Boxers third straight and fifth in Northwest Conference play. Pacific has allowed just two goals in its last seven matches.
With the victory, the Boxers improved to 2-1-5 in the NWC.
Next: After six straight road matches, Pacific returns home to host Willamette on Sunday at noon.
