Boxers can't keep up strong start at Willamette

SALEM – Playing the final match of the 2025 season, the Pacific volleyball team came out swinging and dominated the first set at Willamette.

But the magic ended there as the Bearcats took the next three sets to win 3-1 Saturday night in Northwest Conference action.

After the Boxers won the first set 25-13, Willamette was just as dominant in the second, winning 25-14 to even the match.

Pacific and Willamette went back-and-forth in the third set before the Bearcats took a 13-8 lead on their way to a 25-19 victory.

The Boxers went on a 6-0 run to take a 11-9 advantage in the fourth set. But tied at 14-14, Willamette scored four straight points to take the lead for good and finish off Pacific 25-17.

Emma Velchek had nine kills, 13 digs, two aces and two blocks in the loss. Rorie Frias recorded 15 assists.

As a team, the Boxers had nine aces but hit just .108 over the four sets.

Pacific finished 2-14 in the Northwest Conference and 5-16 overall.
