Boxers drop season-opening series to No. 16 La Verne

The Pacific baseball team scored its first runs and took its first lead in the bottom of the second inning. But No. 16 La Verne answered with a five-run third inning to defeat the Boxers 11-3 Saturday to complete a three-game series sweep.

Junior Riz Collado doubled to lead off the bottom of the second inning and then scored on a two-out RBI single to center field by senior Jack Rhea.

Rhea then scored on an RBI single to right field by freshman Javin Hamura to put the Boxers on top 2-1.

The Leopards, who recorded 16 hits in the game, responded with five runs in the top of the third, one in the fourth and two in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Pitching in relief, Pacific junior Matt Palmateer threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and recording three strikeouts.

Game 1

Starting pitcher Governor Aufranc allowed just one run in 6 1/3 innings. But the Boxers left 10 runners on base in a 3-0 loss on Friday to open the 2025 season.

Aufranc allowed three hits, five walks and recorded five strikeouts on 93 pitches.

Senior Vincent Lagatta and junior Miles Bergman were both 2-for-4 at the plate.

Game 2

La Verne cranked out 15 hits, including two doubles and two triples, to take game two 11-0 on Friday.

Lagatta was again 2-for-4 to lead Pacific at the plate. Hamura drew two walks and had two stolen bases.
