Behind two strong performances from its starting pitchers, the Pacific baseball team rolled to 10-1 and 6-2 victories over Willamette University on Saturday.
Game 1
After Willamette scored in the top of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead, Pacific sophomore Nicholas Saelens shut down the Bearcats the rest of the way. Saelens pitched all nine innings to earn the win, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out six.
At the plate, the Boxers took advantage of seven Willamette errors. Will Shelor tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Javin Hamura. Another sacrifice fly by Hamura in the third inning scored Nathaniel Chapman to put Pacific on top 2-1.
The Boxers put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Hamura finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs. Trevor Kazahaya hit his second home run of the season in the sixth inning.
Game 2
Pacific senior Governor Aufranc held Willamette to seven hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings to earn his first win of the season.
The Boxers scored one run in the third inning, two in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Hunter Nishina went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and scored two runs, while Hamura finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
