CLAREMONT, Calif. – Pacific started the 2026 baseball season strong, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
But Pomona-Pitzer's lineup was ultimately too powerful as the Boxers fell 18-10 Friday in both team's season opener.
The Sagehens took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second inning. After Pacific grabbed a 5-4 lead in the top of the third, Pomona-Pitzer, ranked No. 19 in the American Baseball Coaches Association preseason poll, answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and five more in the fourth to go ahead 13-5.
The Boxers didn't go away quietly as
Hunter Nishina launched a three-run homer to right field in the sixth inning.
Alex Laureano added a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
Pacific had 12 hits in the non-conference loss.
Riz Collado was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.
Trevor Kazahaya went 1-for-2 with three walks and a home run.
