Boxers swept at Linfield

MCMINNVILLE – Trying to avoid the series sweep, the Pacific baseball team fell 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Linfield.
 
The Boxers scored first on a Trevor Kazahaya solo home run to center field in the top of the fourth inning. After Linfield took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning, Javin Hamura scored the tying run on a ground ball by Alex Laureano in the top of the fifth. Benjamin Lewis then knocked in Will Shelor on an RBI single to left field to put Pacific back on top, 3-2.
 
Tied 3-3, the Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
 
SATURDAY
 
Game 1
 
Nathaniel Chapman scored the tying run on an RBI single by Hunter Nishina in the top of the ninth inning to send the series opener to extra innings.
 
But Linfield won 6-5 on a walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th. 
 
The Boxers got off to a fast start as a Jake Gallagher two-run homer put Pacific ahead 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning. 
 
Linfield scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and then added four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.
 
Nishina was 3-for-5 at the plate. Shelor, Chapman and Riz Collado each had two hits in the loss. 
 
Game 2
 
Pacific senior Governor Aufranc pitched all eight innings, allowing just six hits and two earned runs. But the Boxer offense was held to just one run in a 4-1 loss.
 
Shelor, who was 2-for-4 with a double, scored Pacific's only run off the game in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Lewis.
 
The Boxers had two errors and left 13 runners on base in the loss.
