FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Maybe everything is just bigger in Texas.
 
The Pacific football team opened the 2026 season Friday night at Hanson Stadium with much excitement and anticipation to break in a new crop of players.
 
But Howard Payne reached the end zone on just its third play of the game and did not stop lighting up the scoreboard on the way to a 49-0 win.
 
By the end of the night, the Yellow Jackets recorded 522 yards of total offense while holding Pacific to just 151.
 
Howard Payne raced out to a 15-0 lead after the first quarter and then went into halftime up 28-0. 
 
Transfer running back Carson Mullins led the Boxer offense with 66 yards on 17 carries. Senior Riley Camarillo caught three passes for 24 yards.
 
Freshman linebacker Alex Deuser recorded 11 total tackles in his first game at Pacific, including 2.5 for loss. 
 
Sophomore linebacker Kaimana Ancheta intercepted Howard Payne quarterback Glendon Casas-Willis inside the Yellow Jacket's 30-yard line with 3:19 remaining in the third quarter. But the Boxers gave the ball right back, throwing an interception on third-and-long from the Howard Payne 26. 
 
Next: The Boxers host Willamette on Saturday, Sept. 12 in the final year of the Oregon Cup.
