A former Pacific standout in the diamond both as an infielder and as a pitcher, Jared Van Hoon returns to Forest Grove for his first season as an assistant coach for the Pacific baseball program.
Van Hoon spent the last year as an assistant coach at his prep alma mater, Lake Oswego High School, where he was the varsity infield coach and first base coach during the 2014 season. He also worked with the Lakers’ summer program as the team’s primary pitching coach. Prior to returning to Lake Oswego, Van Hoon was a varsity assistant coach at Westview High School in Beaverton, helping lead the Wildcats to the 2013 Metro League Championship.
A transfer to Pacific from the College of the Desert, Van Hoon was a two-year standout infielder and relief pitcher for the Boxers. Named to the 2012 All-Northwest Conference First Team as a utility player and relief pitcher, Van Hoon was on the mound to close the game out for the Boxers as they won a share of their first NWC championship in 30 years. That same year, Van Hoon was twice named to the D3Baseball.com National Team of the Week and to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-West Region Team.
At College of the Desert, Van Hoon was a two-time first team all-conference selection as an infield and pitcher. Following his college career, Van Hoon went on to play for the Seattle Studs and was a member of their National Baseball Congress World Series championship team in 2013.
A native of Lake Oswego, Van Hoon finished his degree in sociology at Portland State in 2013 and has plans of working in law enforcement. He resides in Hillsboro.
