Matt Daily is in his second season as a Pacific assistant baseball coach, bringing to the Boxers a significant level of coaching experience as a head coach at the NAIA and NCAA Division III level.
In addition to his coaching duties, Daily serves as the Boxers’ recruiting coordinator and plays a key role in the operation of Pacific’s baseball camps.
Daily arrived at Pacific for the 2012 season after three years successfully building the program at Menlo College in Atherton, Calif., and mentoring the Oaks in their transition from a NCAA Division III independent back to a full NAIA program. Daily compiled a 70-50-1 record as the Oaks’ head coach and led the program to a school record 32 victories in 2011. The Oaks won the California Pacific Conference title and advance to play in the NAIA West Regional Tournament.
In 2010, Menlo’s last year as a Division III program, Daily led the Oaks to a 22-15 record and was named the Association of Division III Independents Baseball Coach of the Year.
Prior to his arrival at Menlo, Daily served as director of operations for the Santa Clara University baseball program. From 2004 to 2005, Daily was an associate scout for the San Diego Padres, covering Indiana and Michigan. Daily’s other coaching stops include work at Georgetown, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the University of Portland and Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Daily played his collegiate baseball at Lewis & Clark, where he played three seasons as a center fielder. He returned to Palatine Hill in 2002 for one season as an assistant coach.
A native of the Bay Area, Daily graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in American studies with concentrations in history and English. He completed his master’s degree in education from Notre Dame in 2000. Daily and his wife, Jenny, welcomed their first child in December 2011.
