Jacob Yoro enters his fifth season as Pacific’s defensive coordinator, using his wealth of experience at the Division I-FCS and NAIA ranks to mold this young Pacific program for success. In addition to his coordinator duties, Yoro does specific position work with the Boxers’ linebackers.
In 2013, Yoro’s defense showed great maturity in playing head-to-head with the Northwest Conference’s toughest teams. The Boxers finished the season ranked fifth among NCAA Division III teams in sacks and 28th in tackles for loss. Pacific allowed opponents a total of 19.6 points per game, ranking 58th nationally.
Yoro also recently completed his third season as Pacific’s recruiting coordinator, where he has succeeded in continuing to draw great talent to Forest Grove. In addition, he helped to bring over 100 new players to Pacific after playing a key role in Hawaii recruiting over his first two years with the program.
Yoro arrived at Pacific after one season as the linebackers coach at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to a 4-6 record.
Prior to returning to the mainland, Yoro spent eight seasons coaching in the high school ranks in his native Hawaii. He spent the 2008 season at a linebackers coach and defensive consultant at Waipahu High School. Prior to Waipahu, Yoro spent six years at the St. Louis School in Honolulu where be began as linebackers coach before spending three seasons (2005-2007) as defensive coordinator. Yoro began his coaching career at Mililani High School where he was the linebackers coach.
Yoro played his collegiate football at the University of Montana, where he was a two-year letterwinner before seeing his career cut short by a knee injury. He was a part of Grizzlies’ teams that advanced to the Division I-FCS playoffs in 1998 and 1999. Yoro played his high school ball at the St. Louis School where he earned all-league and all-state honors in football.
A native of Mililani, Hawaii, Yoro, 34, earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Hawaii-Manoa in 2008.
