Already rich with a family pedigree in football, Patrick Walsh hones his craft more at Pacific as he joins the Boxers as a tight ends coach.

Walsh comes to Pacific after one season as defensive line coach and special teams coordinator at Foothills College, a junior college in Los Altos, Calif. In his one year, Walsh saw three of his defensive lineman advance to Division I schools. On the special teams side of the ball, Footballs ranked first in the Northern California Conference in punt return yards.

The nephew of legendary NFL quarterback John Elway and former Portland State and current Cal Poly head coach Tim Walsh, Patrick Walsh played two seasons at Division I FCS Sacramento State. He started 10 games for the Hornets at guard. Walsh spent his first two seasons as Foothills, where he earned first team all-conference honors on the offensive line in both 2005 and 2006.

Walsh was selected as a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 2006 and was the No. 3 ranked junior college center in the country by JCFootball.com.

A native of San Jose, Calif., Walsh played his prep football at Pioneer High School, earning all-league and honorable mention all-section honors. Walsh earned his associate’s degree from Foothills in 2008 and his bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Sacramento State in 2010.

In addition to his famous uncles, Walsh’s grandfather, Jack Elway, was head coach at both San Jose State and Stanford and served as a scout for the Broncos in the 1990s. His father played professionally for one season for the Seattle Seahawks and went on to coach running backs at San Jose State and Stanford.
