Randyn Akiona enters his third season with the Pacific coaching staff.  A coach with over a decade of experience as an arena league player and a high school and college coach, Akiona will concentrate on the program’s cornerbacks.
 
Prior to coming to Forest Grove, Akiona was the receivers coach at the Iolani School in Honolulu from 2007 to 2009, helping the Raiders to three straight Hawaii Division II championships.  Prior to his arrival at Iolani, Akiona spent two seasons at Damien Memorial High School, where he worked with the receivers and return specialists.
 
In addition to his coaching duties, Akiona spent from 2006 to 2009 as an elementary school physical education teacher.
 
Akiona played his college football at NCAA Division I-FCS powerhouse Montana, where he was a teammate with current Pacific defensive coordinator Jacob Yoro.  In is five years with the Grizzlies, Akinoa was part of five Big Sky Conference championships, a Division I-FCS championship in 2001 and a runner-up finish in 2000.
 
Following Montana, Akiona played two seasons in the Arena 2 Football League, spending the 2003 season with the Macon Knights before returning home for the 2004 season with the Hawaiian Islanders.  He saw time at wide receiver, linebacker and defensive back.
 
A native of Honolulu, Akiona was an all-league and all-state selection for the St. Louis School in both football and track and field.  He graduated from Montana in 2002 with a degree in organizational communication.
