Murata comes to Pacific from Urbana, Illinois where he was employed at the Atkins Tennis Center, the home tennis facility for the University of Illinois. He worked both collaboratively and independently, coaching clinics and private lessons for tennis players aged five to 60 years old. Murata often worked with Division I athletes privately and gained experiences working with the Fighting Illini coaching staff, a highly-successful Big Ten program.

Murata enjoyed a great career as a student-athlete at Pacific, earning over 90 match victories for the Boxers. He received First Team All-Northwest Conference recognition following his impressive 2019 campaign and followed with Second Team honors in the spring of 2021. Murata also served as team captain for three years.

When Murata joined the program in 2017, the Boxers were ranked 29th nationally and climbed to 17th by the time he graduated in 2021, which is the highest ranking in program history.
Hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii, Murata graduated from Pacific with a degree in Film & Video Production. He graduated summa cum laude and served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president in 2019-20.Â
